Case Report
Evaluation of nursing care using Gordon’s functional health patterns model in a patient undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty: a case report
Coronary artery disease remains a leading global cause of mortality, where timely percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) is critical for restoring myocardial perfusion. This case report presents the individualized nursing care of a 58-year-old male with a history of coronary disease and hypertension who presented with acute inferior STEMI and underwent primary PTCA with RCA stenting. Nursing care was systematically structured using Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Model and NANDA-I taxonomy. Key identified diagnoses included acute pain, risk for bleeding, risk for infection, anxiety, disturbed sleep pattern, and ineffective health maintenance. Tailored nursing interventions spanned emergency admission, intensive care surveillance, and discharge planning, focusing on continuous hemodynamic monitoring, procedural safety, psychological reassurance, and lifestyle education. Consequently, the patient achieved significant pain relief, avoided procedural complications, gained emotional stability, and successfully completed comprehensive discharge education. This case underscores the value of structured nursing frameworks in optimizing recovery in interventional cardiology.
